Nespresso is constantly upgrading its lines of coffee makers and espresso machines, and nowhere is this more evident than in the VertuoLine brand so we have gone and compared Vertuoline vs Evoluo vs VertuoPlus Nespresso coffee machines to see how they stack up.
The two main Nespresso Vertuoline coffee machines on the market now are the VertuoPlus and Evoluo, along with their deluxe versions. How do these coffee makers / espresso machines compare to each other, and how are they different from VertuoLine?
There is one potential source of confusion. VertuoLine refers to the entire line of coffee makers, including the first-generation model, VertuoPlus, and Evoluo. However, “VertuoLine” can also refer to the first generation model alone.
The VertuoPlus coffee machine and Evoluo are both VertuoLine products, but they’re markedly more advanced than the first generation VertuoLine coffee machine, which suffered from a design flaw.
We’ve broken down information on everything you need to know about the VertuoPlus, Evoluo, and their deluxe versions.
We’ve discussed the unique makeup of each, and also compared and contrasted the differences of Nespresso Vertuoline vs Evoluo vs VertuoPlus. Our goal has been to answer one critical question: Should you upgrade to a VertuoPlus machine?
Table of Contents
Differences Between VertuoPlus and Evoluo Nespresso
- The VertuoPlus has a moving water reservoir, which the others lack.
- Evoluo allows for more cup sizes to fit due to foldable and removable drip tray
- VertuPlus has 3 pods whereas Evoluo has only 2
- Evoluo has 2 water tanks whereas VertuPlus comes with 1
- VertuPlus has the option to make 5 drink sizes whereas Evoluo only has 2 drink sizes
- VertuPlus has various color designs compared to Evoluo
- VertuPlus has a motorized head
The VertuoPlus lets you set the coffee maker up to suit your countertop, regardless of the amount of space available.
The VertuoPlus is also the only machine to boast a motorized head. Though this might not seem important, the convenience will make a difference if you drink several cups of coffee daily.
Plus, a lack of automation makes your chances of accidentally breaking the machine higher.
The other main differences are regarding the capacity of the reservoir. Both the VertuoPlus and Evoluo come with a 40-ounce water reservoir.
On the other hand, the VertuoPlus Deluxe version has a 60-ounce capacity, while the Deluxe Evoluo version can hold 56 ounces.

Similarities Between VertuoPlus and Evoluo Nespresso
All VertuoLine coffee machines are only compatible with VertuoLine capsules. Even if a different original line is created by Nespresso, it still won’t work with this setup. You must purchase VertuoLine capsules.
How Does First-Generation VertuoLine Compare?
The first VertuoLine doesn’t come highly recommended due to its critical design flaw. You won’t be able to make your coffee hot enough. This outdated model has basically been replaced by the VertuoPlus or Evoluo.
VertuoPlus Features
The VertuoPlus is a both a coffee maker and an espresso maker created by Nespresso, with a design that functions only with VertuoLine capsules.
The coffee maker’s slim design has a movable water reservoir which you can slide behind the machine, to the left, or to the right. The three cup sizes are 1.35 ounce espresso, 8 ounce coffee, and 14 ounce coffee.
The 40 ounce water tank capacity can brew a great deal of coffee. In addition, smart technology like automatic capsules recognition helps adjust your machine to reach whatever settings are optimal for the capsule.
The motorized top of the machine will open and close automatically. There’s also a used capsule container for your finished capsules.
The design uses a convenient and simple 1-button operation system. There’s also a fast heat-up time of merely 15 to 20 seconds. Imagine that – just 20 seconds away from your coffee!
You’re given descaling alerts, and the automatic OFF mode powers down the machine when there’s 9 minutes of non-use.
This coffee maker comes with a sample pack of every VertuoLine flavor of coffee and espresso. It’s available in either gray or red.
Nespresso VertuoPlus Deluxe
Is the Deluxe different from the standard Nespresso VertuoPlus?
The Deluxe version has all the same features as the VertuoPlus. The aesthetic design has chrome accents, and the water reservoir capacity is 60 ounces.
Other than that, though, the two coffee makers are exactly the same.
Nespresso VertuoLine Evoluo Features
Like the VertuoPlus, the Evoluo uses Centrifusion technology to brew its coffee. It also comes with two capsule sizes: small for espresso and large for coffee. Capsules can easily be inserted and ejected.
The used capsules container is removable and capable of holding 17 used capsules. It also has an automatic off mode following 9 minutes of inactivity.
As for the Nespresso Evoluo Deluxe, it has the same features as the Nespresso Evoluo, but its water tank has a 54-ounce capacity.
Branding
VertuoPlus has branding with DeLonghi, but VertuoPlus Deluxe has Breville branding. This may seem confusing, but it isn’t meant to be. In this case, the companies have partnered up to share the best of their technology.
Nespresso has created a partnership with Breville and DeLonghi to help with machine distribution.
Regardless of the branding, all VertuoPlus and Deluxe machines are Nespresso machines that were created to brew specific capsules.
VertuoPlus: Worth the Upgrade?
If you don’t yet have a Nespresso Vertuoline coffee maker machine, the VertuoPlus is absolutely worth your investment.
Meanwhile, if you own a VertuoLine coffee maker and find your coffee isn’t hot enough, the VertuoPlus fixes that design flaw.
However, if you already own an Evoluo, it’s not necessary to upgrade to the VertuoPlus. Both machines offer basically the same performance features.
VertuoLine products are consistently evolving. If you prefer a large amount of brewing space, you might want to spring for the Deluxe version of either the VertuoPlus or Evoluo. Otherwise, the features remain the same.
Conclusion
So there it is a wrap up of Vertuoline vs Evoluo vs VertuoPlus and the features of each. We hope this article has given you the relevant information to compare within the VertuoLine machines. There are also the Original line machines to consider from Nespresso but they are for another article 🙂 here is one for Nespresso Inissia vs Pixie vs Citiz
– Main differences are explained above but the short answer is VertuPlus has more options than Evoluo like 3 pods and 5 cups sizes compared to 2 pods and 2 cup sizes for the Evoluo.
– The first VertuoLine doesn’t make your coffee hot enough. It is an outdated model so Evoluo is the new machine in this brand line.
– Counter to its name the VertuoPlus Deluxe only has more color options and a water tank that can be moved to different positions. Not many differences other than that.
Water reservoir capacity: Both the VertuoPlus and Evoluohave 40 oz water reservoir. The VertuoPlus Deluxe version has 60 oz capacity but the Evoluo Deluxe version has a 56 oz capacity.
- All VertuoLine machines use VertuoLine capsules. Other capsules will not work with them.
- They use Nespresso Centrifusion technology. Centrifusion spins the capsules and at the same time mixes them with water to extract the coffee; other brands use a pump to force the water and produce coffee. The best part of this technology? It’s as quiet as it gets – the only sound you’ll hear is the sound of an almost silent fan spinning.
– We would have to say the VertuoPlus is the best in the line due to having the features of all the others plus a couple of other options in addition.
